Female Orgasm intensifier

Female orgasm intensifiers are gels, creams and balms applied to the clitoris before stimulation to make it feel more sensitive, with a warming, cooling or tingling effect. To choose one, decide which sensation you want and check the ingredients if you have sensitive skin.

What is a female orgasm intensifier?

It is almost always a gel or cream for topical use: you put a small amount on the clitoris and spread it with your fingers. It is designed to increase blood flow and clitoral sensitivity. Some formulas contain ingredients such as L-arginine or menthol and aim to heighten the sensations leading up to orgasm. They are sold as a way to have quicker, more frequent and more intense orgasms, although every body responds in its own way: for some women the sensation changes a lot and for others very little. You can use one on your own or with a partner.

If you want to feel more sensitivity in other areas, such as the nipples, take a look at the sensitivity stimulators. Products designed for the penis are in male enhancers.

Types of orgasm intensifiers

They differ mainly in the sensation they give and in their format. There are options from brands such as Sensuva, System JO and Bijoux Indiscrets, as well as RUF, EROS and Joydivision.

  • Warming effect: gels that give a feeling of warmth when applied, such as those from EROS Hot Power, Intimateline or Kamasutra.
  • Cooling effect: they contain menthol or other refreshing ingredients and give a cool sensation. Some creams combine cooling and warming.
  • Tingling: gels that produce a light tingle on the skin. Some are marketed as a "liquid vibrator".
  • Balms and serums: applied in a small amount directly on the clitoris, such as the balms from Bijoux Indiscrets or the serum from LELO.
  • Oils and sprays: intimate oils are spread with a massage and sprays are applied without touching.
  • Capsules and supplements: taken by mouth and usually plant-based. They work differently from gels, so read the product description and the leaflet carefully.

What the studies say

There is little published research on this type of product. A randomised trial with 59 women compared a treatment called RJ101 with a placebo (Krychman et al., 2020, J Cosmet Dermatol). After 4 weeks, 76% of the women who used RJ101 said they had noticed an improvement in orgasm satisfaction, compared with 47% of the placebo group. Almost half also improved without the active product. In addition, the result applies to that specific formula and cannot be carried over to any gel in this category.

Safety

These are products for skin and mucous membranes. The first time, try a drop on the inside of your arm, especially with those that have a cooling or intense warming effect. Do not put them on wounds or irritated skin, or if you have an infection. Do not use them in the anus or inside the vagina either, unless the product description says you can. If the discomfort continues after washing, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. If you are going to take capsules or supplements and you are pregnant or on medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist first.

How to choose an orgasm intensifier

  • Effect: warming, cooling, tingling or a mix. If it is your first time, a mild one is better.
  • Format: gel, cream, balm, serum, oil or spray. Pick the one you find most comfortable to apply.
  • Ingredients: check the list if you have sensitive skin or allergies. It will show whether it contains menthol, L-arginine, essential oils or fragrance.
  • Quantity: the product description states the millilitres. To try one out, a small bottle is better.
  • Compatibility: the product description says whether it can be used with latex condoms and with toys, and whether it is suitable for oral sex.
  • How to use: topical products go on the clitoris, while capsules are taken by mouth. They are not the same thing.

Female orgasm intensifiers: frequently asked questions

Who are orgasm intensifiers for?

For any woman who wants to feel stronger orgasms. They may be of particular interest to women who take hormonal contraceptives or antidepressants (both can reduce clitoral sensitivity), to women in perimenopause, and to anyone who wants more intense orgasms without changing toys.

How long before should I apply it?

About 2-3 minutes before stimulation, unless the product description gives a different time. Start with a small amount and wait until you feel the effect before adding more.

Do female arousal products work?

It depends on the woman and the product. Those applied to the skin give a feeling of warmth, coolness or tingling that you notice straight away. What they change about the orgasm varies a lot from one woman to another, and few studies have been published.

Can I use it with a vibrator?

Yes, if the product description says it is compatible with toys. Apply it to the clitoris first and place the toy on top. If you need more glide, add a water-based lubricant, which works well with silicone toys.

Does it work as a lubricant?

Generally, no: it is used in a small amount and only on the clitoris. For penetration you need a lubricant. Some products do both, and in that case the product description says so.

Is it normal for it to sting a little?

A little warmth, coolness or tingling is normal, because that is the effect they are meant to give. If it turns into a burning feeling or lasts too long, wash with lukewarm water and do not use it again.

Are there intensifiers for men?

Yes, but they are in another category: male enhancers. The ones on this page are designed for the clitoris.
