What is a pheromone perfume?
Pheromones are chemical compounds that, applied like a perfume, aim to boost natural attraction between people. They come as sprays, roll-ons and body oils, and there are also intimate deodorants that contain them. You put them on your pulse points, such as your neck and wrists, just like any fragrance. They work through scent, so they have nothing to do with the products applied to the genitals to heighten sensation, which you will find in sensitivity stimulators and female orgasm enhancers.
Specialist brands include PheroStrong, Eye of Love, Pure Instinct, Bijoux Indiscrets and HOT Twilight, and you will also find RUF, Eros-Art, Cobeco and 500COSMETICS.
Types of pheromone perfumes
They are all used in a similar way. What changes is who they are designed for, whether they have a scent or not and the format they come in.
- For men: masculine formulas such as Cobeco Male, Cobeco Onyx, RUF Smak or HOT Dubai for men.
- For women: Phiero Woman by 500COSMETICS, Pherostrong Queen, Intimateline Female Instinct or Cobeco Pearl, among others.
- Unisex: designed for anyone, such as RUF Taboo Equivoque.
- Unscented: they contain the pheromones without fragrance so you can wear them under your own perfume, like the 50 ml one from Eye of Love.
- Concentrated: formulas the brand presents as concentrated, such as Phiero Xtreme Concentrado or Eros-Art Feroman Concentre.
- Roll-on: applied with a ball applicator, easy to dose and small enough for any bag, such as Phiero Night Woman.
- Kits and gift sets: sets to use as a couple, such as the Matchmaker from Eye of Love, or sets with several perfumes.
- Intimate deodorant: applied externally on the intimate area and contains pheromones, such as Ferowoman from Eros-Art.
What compounds they contain
Four substances are used most often. Androstenone is associated with male dominance; androstenol with a more social, friendly effect; copulins, female pheromones, are said to boost male desire, and osmopherones are optimised synthetic blends. The scientific evidence in humans is limited, although growing, and some recent studies suggest that certain compounds may influence how attractive a person is perceived to be. That is why it is best to treat them as a complement to your perfume and not as a foolproof trick.
Safety
These are cosmetics for external use. Apply them to healthy skin and away from your eyes, and if you have sensitive skin, test a drop on your wrist first. If you notice itching or redness, wash the area with water and stop using it.
How to choose
- Who it is for: the product page says whether it is for men, for women or unisex; what changes is the formula and the scent the brand has chosen.
- Fragrance: the product page says whether it has its own scent or is unscented; if it has a scent, look at its notes as you would with any perfume.
- Format: the spray covers your neck and wrists evenly; the roll-on lets you dose precisely and carry it with you.
- Concentration: if the product page says the formula is concentrated, stick to the amount it recommends.
- Size: most bottles range from 15 to 50 ml; if it is your first time, a small one is enough to find out whether you like it.
- Ingredients: if you have sensitive skin or any allergy, check the composition on the product page before buying.
Pheromones: frequently asked questions
Do pheromones really work?
It depends on what you expect. They do not cause instant attraction or anything like mind control; they add a layer of scent that, combined with your own body chemistry, may boost the perception of confidence and attractiveness. The effect is subtle and builds up over time.
Can I mix pheromones with my perfume?
Yes. Many are unscented precisely for this: apply the pheromones to your pulse points first and then your perfume on top. Those with their own fragrance are worn on their own, instead of perfume.
Do pheromones help with dating?
They do not do the work for you. They may add something on a date, just as a good perfume does, but the evidence in humans is limited and they are no substitute for conversation or trust.
Can a woman wear a men's pheromone perfume?
Yes, nothing stops you if you like how it smells. If you do not want a clearly masculine or feminine scent to come through, choose a unisex or an unscented one.
Can I put it on my intimate area?
Only products that say so on the product page, such as intimate deodorants, and always externally. Perfumes go on the neck or wrists: on the penis, vagina or other mucous membranes they may cause irritation.
Is a pheromone perfume an aphrodisiac?
Not in the sense of something you apply to arouse, even if some brands advertise it that way. It is used as a fragrance and works through scent; to stimulate the genital area there are sensitivity stimulators and erotic creams and powders.
Are there pheromone perfumes to give as a gift for couples?
Yes. There are kits designed to use as a couple, such as the Matchmaker from Eye of Love, and sets with several perfumes, such as the three-piece set from the same brand.
