Flavoured condoms

Flavoured condoms have a flavoured lubricant that covers the taste of latex and makes protected oral sex more appealing: strawberry, banana, chocolate, mint or mixes like mojito or bubblegum. To choose, look at the flavour, the material and the size; for vaginal penetration, an unflavoured condom is a better choice.

What are flavoured condoms?

They are ordinary condoms with flavour and scent added to the outer lubricant. They are used for protected oral sex: they swap the taste of latex for strawberry, cherry, chocolate, mint, banana, piña colada, bubblegum or other combinations, so it is something you enjoy rather than put up with. Many also come in bright colours, which adds a playful touch. There are products from different brands and in different sizes. Almost all are made of natural latex. The only latex-free ones are the two Skyn mixed packs from Manix (Cocktail Club and 5 Senses), made of polyisoprene, and the Pasante internal condom, made of nitrile. Pasante and Confortex also state the CE marking in the description of their condoms. If you have a latex allergy, check the material on the product page or take a look at latex-free condoms.

Flavoured condoms: frequently asked questions

Do flavoured condoms protect as well as regular ones?

Yes. They pass the same certification tests and the flavouring is in the outer lubricant, so it doesn't change the structure of the latex. Used correctly, they reduce the risk of pregnancy and of sexually transmitted infections, like any condom.

Can I use flavoured condoms for vaginal penetration?

Technically yes, because they are certified condoms, but it isn't ideal. The flavourings and sugars in the lubricant may alter the vaginal flora, so for vaginal penetration it is better to use an unflavoured one, such as sensitive condoms or natural condoms.

Are flavoured condoms edible?

No. The flavour is in the lubricant to make oral sex more pleasant, but the condom is not to be eaten or swallowed.

Can I add more lubricant?

Yes, a water-based or a silicone-based one. With latex, don't use oils, which weaken it and it may break.
