Waterproof Vibrators

A waterproof vibrator is sealed to work under water, in the shower or the bath, which also makes it easier to clean thoroughly. To choose, look for the words “fully waterproof” or “submersible” in the listing, because almost none give an IPX rating; “water-resistant” or “splashproof” will not survive immersion.

What is a waterproof vibrator?

It is a fully sealed vibrator, with no covers or gaps for water to get in, so you can use it in the shower, the bath or the hot tub without a problem. Of the ones here, four out of five listings give the model as fully waterproof, suitable for the shower and the spa; for the rest, check what the listing says before taking it into the bath. The sealing is also welcome out of the water, because you can wash it straight under the tap, thoroughly, after every use. Any shape of vibrator can be waterproof, so here you will find rabbits, wands, bullets or suction toys, with different power levels and functions, that can all get wet.

Types of waterproof vibrators

Almost every shape of vibrator comes in sealed versions. These are the ones you will find here, with a link to their category to see more models; once there, check in the listing whether each one can get wet.

  • Rabbits: stimulate the G-spot and the clitoris at the same time, and some rotate or have a thrusting movement. More models in rabbit vibrators.
  • G-spot: they have a curved tip to press against the front wall of the vagina, and some add a come-hither motion. More in G-spot vibrators.
  • Clitoris: used externally; suction toys stimulate with pulses of air, without direct contact. More in clitoral vibrators and clitoral suction toys.
  • Wands: rounded head and strong vibration, for massage and for the clitoris. More in massage wands.
  • Mini vibrators and bullets: small and easy to take into the shower. More in mini vibrators and eggs and bullets.
  • Anal: vibrating butt plugs, anal vibrators and prostate massagers, such as the Petite Sensations, the Butt Throb or the O-Boy by Rocks-Off. There are more, and anal beads too, in anal toys.
  • Kegel balls: the ones that vibrate and can be submerged, such as the Satisfyer Love Birds or the Rithual Nisha, are not on this page but with the rest of the Kegel balls; in their listing you will see whether they are fully waterproof or only splashproof.
  • Nipples: stimulators with vibration or suction designed for the nipples.
  • With remote or app: so your partner can control it or so you can control it from your phone. More in remote control toys.
  • Ducks: the bath-time classic, a duck-shaped vibrator for external use. More in vibrating ducks.

What the studies say

The studies we cite here are about vibrator use in general, not in water. In a survey of 2,056 women aged 18 to 60, 52.5% had used a vibrator at some point (Herbenick et al., 2009, J Sex Med).

In a randomised trial with 20 urogynaecology patients with sexual dysfunction and pelvic floor problems, scheduled vibrator use was associated with positive experiences in sexual function, pelvic floor health and mood (Leong et al., 2026, Am J Obstet Gynecol). It is a small sample of specific patients, and it did not study use in water.

Water safety

Not every vibrator that says “waterproof” really is. IPX5 only withstands splashes and jets, so do not put it under water. In the listings on this page the IP rating almost never appears: what they say is “submersible”, “aquatic” or “suitable for the shower or spa”, and that is what you should look for. Before charging it, dry it well, especially the charging area.

There is a nuance with lubricant. Water-based lubricant dilutes in water, which is why silicone-based lubricant is often used for water play. But most of the vibrators in this category are made of silicone, and with them you need to use water-based lubricant in the shower too, applied before getting into the water, because silicone lubricant can damage the surface of the toy. If you use silicone lubricant with a toy made of another material, bear in mind that it leaves the shower or bath floor slippery.

How to choose

  • Water: look for “fully waterproof” or “submersible” in the listing, which is how it almost always appears; only a few give an IPX7 rating. “Water-resistant”, “splashproof” or IPX5 will not survive immersion.
  • Buttons: firm-press ones are best, so they do not switch on by themselves under water.
  • Power: for underwater use, medium to high, because vibration is transmitted differently under water.
  • Grip: a non-slip surface; textured silicone is the easiest to handle with wet hands.
  • Suction cup: if you want it for the shower, some models have one to fix them to the wall or the edge of the bath.
  • Shape and size: decide whether you want it for the clitoris, the G-spot or the anus, and check the insertable length and the diameter in the listing.

Waterproof Vibrators: frequently asked questions

Can I use any vibrator in the shower?

No. Only those that the listing gives as fully waterproof, or with an IPX7 rating or higher if it is stated. Being battery-powered does not rule it out: of the waterproof ones on this page, more than a third run on batteries, such as the anal vibrators and bullets by Rocks-Off, the B Swish or the Rotations rabbits by Baile, and almost half are rechargeable.

What does IPX7 mean?

That the toy withstands total immersion down to 1 metre for 30 minutes. IPX8 allows prolonged immersion, and IPX5 only withstands splashes and jets. In this category only a few listings carry the code, and all of them say IPX7: Hallo Focus, Happy Rabbit Wand and the RO 80 mm and RO 90 bullets by Rocks-Off. For the others the information is written out, such as “submersible” or “suitable for the shower or spa”, without a rating.

Does the vibration feel weaker under water?

It can feel different. Water spreads the vibration, and in some models it feels less intense and in others more enveloping.

How long does the battery last if I use it in the shower?

The same as out of the water: IPX7 sealing does not affect battery performance. Most rechargeable vibrators give 45-90 minutes of continuous use; if the listing states the run time, check it.

How do I clean a waterproof vibrator?

Under the tap, with warm water and mild soap or a toy cleaner, before and after use, and leave it to air dry. As it is sealed you can wash all of it, but do not boil it: it contains a motor and a battery.

Is it suitable for couples in the bath?

Yes. Any of them can be used alone or with a partner, and those with a remote or app let the other person control it. There are more models designed for two in couples vibrators.
