Duckie Vibrators

Duckie vibrators, or vibrating rubber ducks, are external massagers shaped like a rubber duck, made for the clitoris and for the bath. Choose between the classic duck, which is discreet with a gentle vibration, and the duck-head finger vibrator, which is more focused; then check on the product page whether it is fully waterproof.

What is a duckie vibrator?

It is a bath-duck-shaped massager that vibrates and is used externally: you rest it on the clitoris or on any part of the body you fancy. The format exists thanks to a single product, the I Rub My Duckie by Big Teaze Toys, launched in 2003 in San Francisco and one of the first sex toys designed on purpose to look like an innocent toy. It solved two things at once. The first was discretion: you leave it on the bathroom shelf and nobody suspects a thing. The second was water: most external massagers at the time were not submersible.

In 2004 it won an award at the Adult Novelty Awards and was named Sex Toy of the Year at the AVN Awards, and it has been made continuously ever since. Its success opened up a whole subgenre of innocent-looking toys with powerful motors, and years later other brands took the same idea to a smaller format, the duck-head finger vibrator.

Types of duckie vibrators

There are two formats: the full duck, which is the original, and the finger vibrator, a stylised duck head that slips onto your finger. The current generation of the duck carries the 2.0 suffix, with a more powerful motor than the early versions, which used LR44 batteries, and it is advertised with IPX7 water resistance certification. From Big Teaze Toys we have two 2.0 ducks here, both with 7 vibration modes and both with one AAA battery, not rechargeable: the Massager and the one with a Swarovski crystal on the beak. The other two editions in the range, White & Black and Pride, are not currently among the shop's models. There are three Ducky finger vibrators, from CoverMe, Happy Loky and Black&Silver.

If you are looking for other small toys for discreet stimulation, you have more options in our mini vibrators collection.

  • I Rub My Duckie 2.0 White & Black: the classic version, with Dalmatian spots; it is the image most associated with the brand.
  • I Rub My Duckie 2.0 Pride: an edition with a rainbow ribbon. Big Teaze Toys donates part of the sales to LGBT+ organisations.
  • I Rub My Duckie 2.0 Massager: 7 vibration modes to choose from, whereas the other two have a single continuous mode with adjustable intensity. Designed for longer, more varied sessions.
  • CoverMe Ducky finger vibrator: 8 vibration modes; it is the most versatile of the three finger vibrators.
  • Happy Loky Ducky finger vibrator: compact, with a rechargeable battery and powerful for its size.
  • Black&Silver Ducky finger vibrator: the premium version, with body-safe silicone and USB-C charging.

Classic duck or finger vibrator: what is the difference?

The full duck measures about 9 cm and the finger vibrator about 5 cm. The duck spreads the vibration more diffusely and is as discreet as it gets, because at a glance it looks like a bath toy that can pass for a decorative object. The finger vibrator is a little easier to recognise, but it concentrates the vibration on one spot and you guide it directly with your finger.

If you do not mind about the duck shape, in clitoral vibrators you will find many more shapes for external stimulation. And if what matters to you is using it in the water, the fully waterproof vibrators bring together the ones you can take into the bath.

  • Classic duck: best for the bath, for gifts and for beginners.
  • Ducky finger vibrator: best for targeted clitoral stimulation and for taking travelling.

Care and cleaning

If yours has silicone, use a water-based lubricant: silicone-based ones can damage the surface of a silicone toy. Before charging it, make sure the connector area is dry. Do not boil it, because it contains a motor and a battery. Store it clean and dry, ideally in a pouch or its box, apart from other toys.

How to choose

  • Format: full duck if you want something discreet with a spread-out vibration; finger vibrator if you prefer to aim at one specific spot with your hand.
  • Water: check the protection on the product page. With IPX7 or “submersible” you can use it in the bath and in the shower; if it only “resists splashes”, it can take getting a little wet, but should not be put under the water.
  • Vibration modes: if being able to turn the intensity up and down is enough for you, a single mode is sufficient; if you like to keep changing rhythm, look for one with several modes.
  • Power: check whether it runs on a battery, like the two 2.0 ducks here, or is rechargeable, like the finger vibrators; with rechargeable ones, check the connector (USB-C or micro-USB) and the battery life stated on the product page.
  • Material: the product page says whether the part that touches your skin is silicone, plastic or rubber.
  • Size: check the dimensions; for fitting it in a toiletry bag or taking it travelling, the finger vibrator takes up less room.

Frequently asked questions

Is a duck dildo the same as a duckie vibrator?

Not quite. Anyone searching for a rubber duck dildo usually wants this duckie vibrator, but it is not a dildo: it is not shaped for insertion and is used externally, on the clitoris or other areas. If you are looking for something for penetration, have a look at the dildos or the rest of the vibrators.

Are they really submersible?

The 7-mode I Rub My Duckie 2.0 and the finger vibrators are; for the Swarovski one, check its product page before putting it in the water. The 2.0 range is advertised with IPX7 certification, which withstands immersion in fresh water up to 1 metre for 30 minutes, and the product page of the 7-mode 2.0 lists it as fully waterproof, for the shower and the bath. The three finger vibrators here, from CoverMe, Happy Loky and Black&Silver, are also listed as submersible, although their product page does not state the IPX rating. If you are going to use it in the bath, check the product page.

How many vibration levels do they have?

It depends on the model. The classic I Rub My Duckie 2.0 (White & Black and Pride) has a single motor and you change the intensity by pressing the button; the Massager comes with 7 programmed modes, and the finger vibrators usually have between 8 and 10 modes.

Are they suitable for beginners?

Yes, especially so. Because it does not look like a sex toy, it takes away the awkwardness of a first purchase, and its vibration is among the gentlest on the market in its range: it suits anyone who has never used a massager and feels intimidated by the power of other models.

Can they be used as a hen party gift?

Yes, it is one of the uses that made it popular. Big Teaze Toys designed the box to be given as a gift at a party: bright colours, no explicit photo and presentable. The Pride edition is also a popular gift among LGBT+ friends.

How do you charge them?

It depends on the model. The two I Rub My Duckie 2.0 ducks here, the 7-mode one and the Swarovski one, are not charged: they run on one AAA battery, which you replace when it runs out. The three finger vibrators are rechargeable, with a lithium polymer battery; the Happy Loky and the Black&Silver come with the USB cable. The connector varies: the Black&Silver uses USB-C and others use micro-USB. The older versions with LR44 batteries are no longer distributed.

What are they made of?

The manufacturer presents the duck as phthalate-free ABS plastic, with CE and RoHS certification and the motor inside a sealed capsule; in the models available now, the product page mainly lists silicone and in some cases rubber. The more premium finger vibrators, such as the Black&Silver, have body-safe silicone on the head, which feels nicer against the skin. The material of each model is on its product page.

How do you clean them?

With warm water and mild soap or a toy cleaner, after every use. If it is submersible, you can wash it whole under the tap; dry it well before storing it. Do not use alcohol or solvents: they can damage the outer plastic and leave it sticky.

Are there more powerful versions for advanced use?

Yes, although not in the main line. Big Teaze Toys occasionally releases “Pro” editions with a reinforced motor, but the classic duck deliberately stays at a gentle or medium intensity, which is its signature. If you want more intensity, the CoverMe Ducky and Black&Silver finger vibrators concentrate the vibration more than the classic duck.

Can you use one with a partner?

Yes. Because it is external, you can use it during foreplay or on the clitoris while you do other things, and the finger vibrator is comfortable because the person controlling it wears it. If you are looking for toys designed for two, have a look at the couple's vibrators.
