What people buy in an online sex shop: our order data (2026)

Our own data · 2026 edition

We analysed the 2,627 paid orders placed in our shop, a Spanish online sex shop, between 2010 and 2026: when people buy, what they buy together and how much they spend. It is not a survey or an estimate: these are real orders, counted with a method we explain at the end.

When the data comes from. Most orders (1,792 of 2,627) are from 2014 to 2016, when the shop was called Todo un Placer and sold mainly in Spain. So this data mostly describes those years and those customers. Every figure shows the number of orders it is based on.

August outsells Valentine's month

If an average month scores 1.00, August scores 1.37 (301 orders) and is the strongest month of the year. February, the month of Valentine's Day, stays at 0.93 (203 orders), below average. The difference is statistically significant.

It is not a one-year thing: August is above average in 2014 (1.56), 2015 (1.22) and 2016 (1.69), and February is below it in all three (0.71, 0.71 and 0.81). The low point is spring: from April to June the index ranges from 0.73 to 0.80.

People buy more on Mondays than on Saturdays

Monday accounts for 16.4% of orders (431) and Tuesday for 16.3%. The weekend is the quietest: Saturday, 11.6% (304), and Friday, 11.8%. Monday beats Saturday in 2014, 2015 and 2016, and the difference is significant.

Afternoons lead, and one order in nine is placed in the small hours

36.0% of orders are placed in the afternoon, from 13 to 19 h (947), and 28.0% in the evening, from 19 to 24 h. In the morning, 24.5%. And 11.4% are placed in the small hours, between 0 and 7 h (300 orders). Spanish mainland time.

Small orders with a single product

Half of all orders spend less than €37.69 excluding VAT (the mean, pushed up by large orders, is €47.60; 2,626 orders). And two in three contain a single item: 65.6% (1,724 orders).

Anal toys come with lube twice as often as vibrators

Of the orders with a toy, 13.3% add a lubricant (269 of 2,020). But it depends heavily on the toy: with an anal toy, 26.2%; with a vibrator, 11.3%. That is about 2.3 times as often, and the difference is significant.

vibrator11.3% (116/1,024)
Orders with each type of toy that also include a lubricant (with lubricant / all orders with that toy).

The product pairs most often bought in the same order (number of orders):

  1. lubricant + vibrator: 116
  2. lubricant + masturbator: 85
  3. anal toy + lubricant: 44
  4. cock ring + vibrator: 43
  5. cock ring + lubricant: 40

Orders shipped to Portugal spend less

Half of the orders shipped to Portugal spend less than €26.55 excluding VAT (164 orders); to Spain, less than €38.47 (2,109). The difference is significant. This is about Loviux orders shipped to each country, not about “the Portuguese” or “the Spanish”.

What we do not claim

  • Nothing about other countries: orders shipped to Germany, the United Kingdom, France or Italy do not reach 100 per country, which is not enough to draw conclusions.
  • Nothing about the gender of the buyer. We do not infer it from names or from what people buy: many people buy for someone else, and it would mean profiling our customers.
  • Nothing about market trends based on how sales in our shop have changed over the years: that mostly reflects how our own range has changed.
  • Nothing that does not hold in both of the calculation bases explained below.

Method and limitations

  • What is counted: 2,627 paid orders placed by people (shipped or delivered) between 2010 and 2026. Excluded: test orders, bots, cancelled orders and refunded orders.
  • Cross-check: we repeated every calculation on a wider base of 3,842 orders, which also includes old bank transfers and cash-on-delivery orders that were never marked as paid. We only publish what holds in both. In that base, August scores 1.33 and February 0.92; Monday, 16.9%, and Saturday, 11.2%; anal toys come with lube in 22.2% of orders and vibrators in 10.5%; and the median spend is €39.40 to Spain and €27.19 to Portugal.
  • Product type: assigned from the product name in the order, in six languages, so products we no longer sell are counted too. 91.7% of order lines are classified; the rest are left out of every percentage by type.
  • Statistics: differences between proportions with a two-sample z-test, and between spends with the Mann-Whitney test. “Significant” means chance is unlikely to explain it (p < 0.05).
  • Privacy: we only publish anonymous aggregates. No cell has fewer than 20 orders and no group fewer than 100. There are no cities, exact dates or specific products that could identify anyone.
  • Limitations: this is one shop, not the whole market. Most orders are from 2014 to 2016, and seasonality may carry the effect of that period's campaigns.
