Nighties

An erotic nightie is something to sleep in or wear for the night, more suggestive than pyjamas and more comfortable than a corset, in lace, satin, tulle or mesh. To choose, decide first on the length and how sheer you want it; then check the size and whether it comes with a matching thong.

What are erotic nighties?

An erotic nightie sits halfway between pyjamas and lingerie: it is comfortable to sleep in and suggestive enough to give going to bed a different feel. They come in lace, satin, tulle and mesh. Cuts range from the short babydoll to the long nightie that falls below the knee, sometimes with slits, and sizes run from XS to 4XL.

Many styles are chemises, short with thin straps. Others come as a top and shorts set, and some include a matching thong. For something shorter and more see-through there are babydolls, and for something to put on over the top, robes and kimonos. If you need more room, take a look at plus size; the rest of our pieces are in lingerie.

How to choose

  • Length: chemises and babydolls are short. If you want more coverage for sleeping, look for a longer style; the photo and description on the product page show it.
  • Fabric: the product page states the fabric and, where available, the composition. Lace, tulle and mesh are more sheer; a smooth fabric such as satin is easier to wear all night.
  • Size: many styles come in dual sizes, such as S/M or L/XL. If the product page gives measurements, compare them with your own rather than relying on the letter alone.
  • Straps: adjustable ones give a better fit around the bust, especially if you are between two sizes.
  • What's included: some come with a matching thong or shorts. The name or the description will say so.
  • Neckline and back: there are styles with an open back, a V neckline or an opening at the chest.

Nighties: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a nightie and a babydoll?

A babydoll is shorter (above the hip), more sheer and always comes with a matching thong: it is designed for a specific moment. A nightie can be longer, down to the knee, and covers more. It is also made in more comfortable fabrics, such as satin or modal cotton, so it works for everyday sleep, although here there are also styles called babydoll or with a thong included.

Can you sleep in an erotic nightie?

Yes. Satin ones or those with little lace are the most comfortable for the whole night. Those in tulle or with sequins are designed more for wearing for a while.

What is a chemise?

A short nightie, fitted at the bust and with thin straps. On some product pages it also appears as a camisole.

How do you wash a lace nightie?

By hand, in cold water with a mild soap, unless the label says otherwise. Dry it flat and without a tumble dryer so the lace and the elastics do not lose their shape.
